Visiting in the COVID-19 'Traffic Light' Framework

Tāmaki Makaurau is in ORANGE of the new Covid-19 'Traffic Light' Protection Framework. Plan your visit, and discover the safety precautions we have in place for you to visit safely here.

Nau mai, haere mai.

MOTAT is OPEN and welcoming visitors. Our opening hours are 10am - 4pm, 7 days, except Christmas Day.

MOTAT has large exhibition and outdoor spaces to explore and enjoy, and our friendly Visitor Hosts are on hand to answer any questions and assist you with enjoying your visit safely.

MOTAT is committed to keeping your whānau and our community safe. This is a new framework for New Zealand, and we’ve done our best to explain the requirements of visiting MOTAT below.

Visitors to the Museum aged 12+ years are required to be fully vaccinated*. Please present your ‘My Vaccine Pass’ to our friendly Visitor Hosts when purchasing tickets. If purchasing tickets online, you will be required to present this information prior to entering the site. All staff you interact with at MOTAT will be fully vaccinated.

Information on how to obtain your Covid-19 My Vaccine Pass can be found online here.

 *Unless medically or otherwise exempt

Please use the NZ COVID Tracer app to record your visit. The MOTAT entrance has a clearly visible NZ COVID Tracer QR code for you to scan when you arrive. We also have a manual sign-in sheet for those who need it. You can also scan before entering specific buildings and areas for a more detailed record of your visit.

All adults and children over the age of 12+ years are required to wear a mask while onsite*. While MOTAT has many outdoor spaces, we ask that you please keep your mask on except when eating or drinking. Our friendly visitor hosts will be monitoring the site and will have spare masks on hand if yours becomes lost or damaged.

*If you are medically exempt from wearing a mask, please alert our front of house team when purchasing tickets.

Our Visitor Hosts will be on hand to manage the flow of visitors throughout the site to ensure you feel safe and comfortable at all times while at the Museum.

MOTAT will be welcoming up to 600 visitors to the Museum. If you would like to book in a group of 10+ please book in advance. All group bookings add-ons are subject to availability and must be pre-booked. Phone the MOTAT bookings line on (09) 815 5808 or contact our team here.

We ask that your visiting group keeps a 1M distance from other visitors wherever possible.

To minimise contact between our front of house team and visitors we recommend payment via Eftpos, credit card or pre-book your tickets online here for a simple scan only entry.

You do NOT need to book timed or dated tickets. We are confident we can manage visitor numbers and safety without making you commit to set times.

  • Sanitisation stations are positioned throughout the Museum for your convenience
