Tram Information

Catch a ride on MOTAT's heritage trams and travel between our Great North Road site and Auckland Zoo FREE with general admission ticketing.

MOTAT tram rides are free for you and your family to enjoy! General Admission to MOTAT includes unlimited tram rides.

Please note: During RED setting in the Covid-19 Protection Framework, our trams will not stop to pick up passengers on their route. Please board the MOTAT trams from within the MOTAT grounds, this allows our friendly Visitor Hosts to verify your 'My Vaccine Pass' prior to boarding. Find out more here >

Catch a free tram ride during MOTAT's opening hours 10am - 4pm, Monday to Sunday.

Trams run every 20 minutes.

At peak times they may run more frequently.

Please check the Tram Schedule for the day when you arrive.

(Covid-19 disruptions, see above for details)

The trams have previously run between M1 and M2.

From 26 July 2021, while M2 is temporarily closed to the public, we are taking the opportunity to perform maintenance and upgrade parts of the tramway track.

To accomplish this, the tram will operate on a new shorter route and will now stop at Auckland Zoo and return to M1 from there.

From 26 July, the tram will stop at:

  • M1 - Great North Road entrance

  • Western Springs Lakeside Entrance - Request Stop Only

  • Motions Road corner - Request Stop Only

  • Auckland Zoo

Please note that two of these stops are only on request.

Come to MOTAT's Night Lights and Christmas Lights events for a very special tram ride!

MOTAT is famous for our operational Collection items, our Daniel Adamson & Co. Boiler powered Pumphouse, our fleet of vintage Trams and our historic village are just a few of the experiences we love to share with visitors.

To keep these heritage items operating and in their best condition we must undertake general maintenance on occasion. Whenever possible we will have this work done outside normal opening hours and will always strive to minimise any disruption to your experience when you visit us.
