Data Detectives

Get ready to jump, test and vote with us these school holidays as we dive into the exciting world of data science and statistics. This hands-on experience brings maths to life, showing how we collect, display and interpret information in fun, practical ways.

Take on our Data Circuit and become part of a growing set of real-time graphs. Test your jump height, grip strength or reaction speed, then watch your results added to large displays that build across the week. See how different ages compare and discover how data can tell the story of how we grow and change.

Help us create a living Map of Auckland by marking where you travelled from and how you got here. As the map fills with colour, hot spots will appear, revealing patterns about our community across Tāmaki Makaurau.

Little learners can uncover nature’s own data at Tree Rings, where crayon rubbings reveal the hidden story inside a tree trunk. Each ring represents a year of growth, turning a simple creative activity into a beautiful lesson in data visualisation.

Join us for a holiday filled with movement, discovery and hands-on fun — and see how data is everywhere.

Te Puawānanga Science and Technology Centre

In our award-winning Science and Technology Centre - Te Puawānanga, explore rich stories interwoven with concepts of science, art, technology and maths that surround us every day. Te Puawānanga is all about interaction and discovery for all ages. From the towering Tāne Mahuta in Te Tumu - Play space for under 5s, to Beats in Time in Te Waha - the Innovation space, we welcome everyone to explore science and tech in a whole new way.

In Te Manawa Science Alive Magic Box, discover data science through striking images from the MOTAT collection and explore how information can be captured, interpreted and shared. Create your own personal data QR code, learn how to present data clearly, and consider what information is best kept private. You can even encode your data into our system and transform it into a custom wearable badge.
