Travel back in time along MOTAT's very own railway and see, hear and smell the history of New Zealand trains.
Please note: Pasifika Vibes replaces our LIVE Day for March. There is no LIVE Day on Sunday 15 March. Instead, entry to the Aviation Hall is discounted to half price, and entry to lower MOTAT Great North Road is free and via Te Wai Ōrea Western Springs or Stadium Road. Here you'll find fun hands-on activities and performance in support of Pasifika 2026.
Take a short journey in one of our vintage carriages, pulled by our selection of fully restored steam locomotives.
MOTAT has three operational large steam locomotives; F-180 “Meg Merrillies”, L507 and Y542, along with a wide selection of other trains and rail vehicles.
Each LIVE DAY, jump aboard one of these meticulously restored steam trains that traverse the Western Springs Railway behind the Aviation Hall. Catch a ride at either Waitītiko Station or Sir Keith Park Station, departing every 15 minutes.
