SW6 trams like 893 were Melbourne Cup workhorses – ferrying huge crowds to and from Flemington across the boom years of racing. She may have seen more fascinators than any other vehicle in Melbourne’s history - adopt a true Cup Day legend!

Adopt Tram No. 893 and support the restoration of a true Melbourne battler. Built in 1944 during the final years of WWII, this SW6-class tram was one of 120 designed to handle increasing passenger loads with improved steel framing, sliding doors, and bus-style seating.

Tram 893 joined MOTAT in 2009 and has since become one of the daily ‘workhorses’ of the Western Springs Tramway – safely and efficiently carrying thousands of visitors and schoolchildren.

After 80 years of service, she’s showing her age. A major body rebuild is urgently needed to preserve her structural integrity and return her to her former glory.
