Tram No. 906

ADOPT TODAY

SW6 trams like 906 once ran past Melbourne’s most famous landmarks, including Swanston Street and the Victoria Racing Club – shuttling racegoers to the Cup for decades.

Adopt Tram No. 906 and help preserve a Melbourne marvel that’s become part of Auckland’s transport heritage. Built in late 1945, No. 906 is one of 120 SW6-class trams designed to modernise Melbourne’s network after the war. With sliding doors and steel window frames, these trams were built for strength and ease of use.

After over 50 years in service in Melbourne, No. 906 joined MOTAT in 2006 and over the years has played a crucial role moving families and school groups safely between our two museum sites.

But time and wear have taken their toll.

Tram 906 now needs a full body rebuild to keep serving the public. Adopt this vital vehicle and you will help preserve the future of this essential tram in MOTAT’s fleet.
