Experience the old-age craft of blacksmithing with a hands-on introduction to forging.
For the first time, MOTAT is offering a unique opportunity for you to our Forge and create your own forged artefact with an exciting hands-on workshop.
For thousands of years, blacksmiths were the engineers and innovators of their communities, transforming raw metal into the tools, machines and structures that shaped everyday life. While today's factories use robotic presses, CNC machines and advanced alloys, the fundamentals remain remarkably similar: heating, shaping, joining and finishing materials to create products with precision and purpose.
Guiding you through this unique experience is MOTAT blacksmith, Caden Bostic, one of New Zealand's few practising blacksmiths. Caden has been committed to the craft of blacksmithing for almost a decade.
This three-hour introductory course provides a practical foundation in blacksmithing techniques. You will learn how to work safely in the forge environment, while using tools and techniques to shape your object.
No prior experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to learn.
Strictly limited to just 4 people per workshop, this experience is not to be missed.
PLEASE NOTE: This experience is only available to those 16 years and over.
