Trams

A popular highlight when visiting MOTAT is riding aboard one of our heritage trams along past Western Springs Park. Jump aboard for a free ride between our two museum locations and enjoy the view. And ask the tram driver and conductor all your tram operation questions.

Accessibility

Please be aware that our trams were designed before the adoption of modern accessibility standards and so only trams with wide doors, such as our Melbourne trams, can accommodate wheelchairs and caregivers must be available to lift the visitor onto the tram.

Parking

We recommend parking on Stadium Road and Great North Road.

MOTAT cares for a fleet of trams that originally operated in cities across New Zealand and Australia. Our fleet includes the stunning Tram 47, a double decker affectionately known as 'Big Ben', a rare steam powered Tram 100, and a number of Australian and New Zealand heritage electric trams.

The operational trams have been meticulously restored and are maintained at MOTAT in our Tram Workshop. Find out more about the MOTAT workshops here.

A tram ride through Western Springs Park is a favourite with all our visitors and is a fun and easy way to travel between our two museum locations, MOTAT Great North Road and the Aviation Hall at Motions Road.

The trams run regularly during opening hours and for some special events. Tram rides are provided as a free service for the community.

See tram timetables and updates here on the Tram Information page.
