The Te Kīhini Rere The Flight Kitchen is the newest exhibition on show at the Walsh Memorial Library, detailing the extraordinary career of Rene Jansen (1937-2020), Executive Chef at Air New Zealand from 1967-82.

The exhibition highlights never-before seen objects and images from Rene’s personal collection, generously donated to the Walsh Memorial Library.

Throughout his career, Rene oversaw international menus, developed seasonal dishes of exceptional flavour and bold presentation, and experimented to create flavoursome meals at altitude.

Discover details of Rene’s incredible career, secrets of the flight kitchen based in Māngere, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, plus the innovation and science of preparing airline cuisine.
