You are welcome to bring a packed lunch when you visit MOTAT but we do ask that no food or drinks are consumed in the exhibition halls. There are a number of dedicated picnic areas around the Museum grounds if you are looking for that special place to relax with your whānau.
Picnic Areas are marked on the map and located on the Cropper House and Village lawns at M1 (Great North Road) and in front of the train station at M2 (Meola Road) alongside the Aviation Display Hall.
At both MOTAT sites we have a dedicated first aid room and there are also first aid kits available at each entrance. Many of the professional Museum team are trained to help with medical incidents. If you require assistance, please speak to any staff member or go directly to either of the MOTAT shops.
Many of MOTAT’s public spaces are accessible and we have a limited number of wheelchairs available for use while you are at the Museum. If you need to reserve a wheelchair, please get in touch before your visit by calling 09 815 5800 or emailing enquiries@motat.org.nz. For further information about accessibility, see our Accessibility page.
MOTAT is the largest museum of its kind in New Zealand and includes many wonderful indoor and outdoor areas to explore. If the weather is wet and you have forgotten your umbrella, you will find umbrellas for you to use during your visit at the entrances to help keep you dry while moving between buildings.
